Forging... It is said that sords are made by forging technology, and Buddhist
statues are made by molding technology. Forging technology is a method
to make stronger metal by hammering. That is forging. Nowadays, various
forging products are produced by the method of which highly heated metals
by induction heater are hammered to add pressure.
OTK's predecessor was a sordsmith, called Toubei, working for a feudal
lord in the era of Sengoku. They made sords, matchlock gans, and agricultural
& industrial tools to enrich people's life at that time. OTK was established
in 1915, has been playing for a important role of Japanese heavy industries.
Nowadays, in addition to long-term practice of our hot forging technology,
we acquire state-of-the-art technology to produce automotive parts with
strength and high accuracy, parts for trucks, industrial parts, and construction
hardware to contribute as a member of forged and foundries industry.
OTK uses 2 ways of forging technology, which are Air drop hammer and Forging
press. We choose each method, depending on the products and products order
volume.
①Rotary furnace
OTK cuts steel materials in appropriate size, then uses highly heated
rotary furnace for making deformation and processing easily.
②Air drop hammer
Steel materials would be flexible for deformation and processing after
heated in rotary furnace. Then, those materials are put into dies, and
hitted by high speed motion hammer to make desired shape. OTK can cordinate
complecated shapes since strong pressure are loaded to steel material with
this air drop hammer.
Our highly skilled craftmen know how to make hammering adjustments by controlling
intensive level and hammering rythm to make desired shape.
③Trimming
The dies are filled with steel materials by hitting a hammer. Then, extra
steel materials, coming out from the dies will be cut off with a pressing
machine.
Forging press
Forging press is more suitable for mass production than forging by air
drop hammer. To make desired dies, we use induction heater to heat up the
steel materials, then insert them in the upper and lower dies with high
pressure by using hydrawlic pressure.
Dies are the thing to make desired shapes of heated steel materials. A
pair of dies will be set up on upper and lower sides. These dies are to
install with a hammer and a press machine.
OTK makes product data by 3D CAD based on customer's drawings. We use
the latest processer in machining center and electric discharge machine
in full automatic operation in order to produce dies for forging. Produced
dies are finished up with fine adjustments by handwork of our skilled craftmen.
